Passive solar house
The most recent solar project in Ekoviikki is a passive
solar house development. It consists of 11 detached
houses (2 dwellings/house). Each dwelling has two stores
and a large glazed space about 10 m2 surface area and 6
meter high. The space is connectable through a small
ventilation window and two indoor doors to the main part
of the dwelling. In summertime when excessive heat
available and there is a danger for overheating, the glazed
space can be easily and naturally ventilated through a
window in the upper floor and downstairs causing a
chimney effect. In the winter, the space works as a
preheating unit.
The houses have several energy conservation features
including demand based ventilation and heat recovery
from ventilation air. The house construction is made from
wood.
