There are many wide gaps of agreement in this field, especially depending on whether or not there is a profit motive involved- which there often is. Those without such motives hope to one day have the true facts be common knowledge. Free energy activists have been pushing towards creating a standardized blue-print that utilizes the most modern technology to determine the minimum resource and energy that is truly needed to sustain the survival of one individual, in hopes to extrapolate the findings into many other current social conditions in attempts to draw inescapable awareness of the differences between how society is largely fueled now and how it could be.

Being in the position most of us are in, we need to seperate ourselves from the power structure and dependece from money-sucking corporations. We need uncentralized, free, abundant, small, smart means or technology to harvest energy. Self-sufficiency is the answer which frees you from the grip of the current energy elite and thus provides the necessary independence to concentrate on further expansion of the resource-based economy.

The solutions are out there. On this page, we will expand on the small-scale self-sufficient possibilities of energy generation.

Geothermal

Main article Geothermal

Geothermal Energy / Ground Source Heating and Cooling Currently geothermal energy is used for the heating and cooling of a house/water. A hole is drilled into the ground, it can be done vertically or horizontally, and a loop is created for piping- similar to a refrigerator. The pipes must run 50 ft below ground level where the earth stays at a constant temperature of 55 degrees. At this level the earth is unaffected by weather. In the winter cold water from the house is ran through the pipes and the contrast in temperature creates the energy, and heats the water. The water is then taken back up and ran through an energy pump and the energy can be used to heat your water and heat or cool your house.

Heating and cooling can account for 50-70% of your energy consumption. So naturally, effective use of Geothermal systems could make our bills about 60% less expensive. Any leftovers one accumulates can be sold to the energy supplier. There is a company that installs in the US, called Next Energy Inc., it was quoted for a 2000 sq/f house it would run about 15-20 thousand. If they have to drill vertically that would be more expensive. Looking at your energy bills one can decide in what amount of time it would start paying for itself, roughly 3-4 years. This company is actually being contracted for sub-divisions.
Solar

This is an excerpt from a newspaper article called Study finds less costly materials for solar panes - by Leah Greenbaum

"The study found a number of cost-effective naturally abundant materials that are not currently being used in solar energy research...Iron sulfide and copper sulfide were clear winners in terms of cost and abundance. Current solar technology costs about $7-8 per watt (assuming this is strictly production costs, retail would be more)...the new materials could potentially cut costs by 'two orders of a magnitude.'...Now solar technology uses crystaline silicon, which is both expensive and difficult to acquire...'if you don't have enough materials, you can't do this on a scale to save humanity,' said Rahesh, who is doing experimental work with these materials...'This could be a five, ten, or even twenty-year effort to getting something like this on the market."

Photovoltaic (Electric Solar Panels)

You will require photovoltaic solar panels. In order to store the energy the solar panels create, you need a battery, whether a car battery or a deep cycle battery (which is better). You can also add numerous batteries by wiring them parallel. To learn more google battery bank. With a charge controller, you can power normall applicances but you need an inverter, which is only around 20 or 30 dollars.

Piezoelectric

When a mechanical stress is applied, this symmetry is disturbed, and the charge asymmetry generates a voltage across the material. For example, a 1 cm cube of quartz with 2 kN (500 lbf) of correctly applied force can produce a voltage of 12,500 V. There are reports of architects planning on implementing this technology into road systems. Specifics on resource costs and overall energy production potential are still being determined.
