Belgian Polar Secretariat

http://www.antarcticstation.org/secretariat/

The Belgian Polar Secretariat is the organisation managing all matters related to the Princess Elisabeth Station. It is a public-private entity, newly created by Royal Decree and representing the Belgian State.

The Secretariat became operational after the International Polar Foundation donated the station to the Belgian state.
Missions

* The mission of the Secretariat is to manage the financial, administrative and logistics aspects of the Princess Elisabeth Station.
* The secretariat will also support all scientific research at the station, disseminate results and support education and outreach programs linked to this research.

Governance

The Strategic Council of the Secretariat is composed of 12 members, 6 of which are appointed by the private sector, while the 6 others are appointed by the public sector. This guarantees that the Princess Elisabeth Station, which could only be built because public and private actors joined forces, will be managed in the same spirit of collaboration between sectors.

Members are appointed for 5 years. Alain Hubert was appointed Chair of the Strategic Council for the first 5-year mandate.

The International Polar Foundation will act as the Antarctic Operator for the Belgian Polar Secretariat.
