KERRY County Council have given the green light to plans for a four turbine wind farm outside Cahersiveen.

Last week the council's planning office announced it was granting permission to Caherciveen Wind Limited, a Waterville based company, to construct the four turbine wind farm at Knockanedan, Cahersiveen.

Permission was granted, subject to 16 conditions for a wind farm incorporating four 80 metres turbines, a substation and access track.

Permission was initially sought for the wind farm in December 2008 but the process was delayed because of a request for further information from the developers by Kerry County Council's planning office.

Submissions regarding the project were made by South Kerry Fine Gael TD Tom Sheahan and Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue.

Two letters regarding the wind farm were sent to the planning office by the Ceann Comhairle in January and March of this year.
