how to make wind turbine
Greetings Everyone,

It’s been a few days since I finished setting up my own renewable energy system and many of you have been asking me what guide I used to build my own wind turbine. I decided to create a short post for you guys.

The guide I have used is Michael Harvey’s Earth4Energy guide. You can check it out here.

What instantly struck me was the easiness of use of the manual. It literally takes a step by step approach to building your own wind turbine or solar panel. The Earth 4 Energy guide also comes with a whole series of short and focussed videos that show vital details for constructing windmills and also solar panels. The biggest surprise came when I found out how dirt cheap it was to actually construct an effective renewable energy system (roughly under $200 for supplies). That’s so cheap, compared to having it done professionally, which can definitely cost thousands of dollars.

I admit that I am not a DIY enthusiast, but thanks to the help of the Earth 4 Energy guide this was the first DIY project that I actually finish. First I bought all the parts in the local hardware store. Back home I started to put all the different parts together with assistance of the Earth4Energy guide and the how-to videos. The final step was the placement of the wind turbine and connecting the batteries.

With all said and done, the windmills were developing energy in minutes and the batteries work like a charm for transferring the power to the loads in our home…the TVs, computers and white goods use up a lot of the stored electricity but there’s been no drop outs or problems as yet.

Now I plan on building more windmills to completely eliminate my electricity bill. Anyway, I’m sure you all want to check the book out for yourself. Go download it and let me know what you think. Here is the link again: Earth4Energy Guide

Categories : Make Wind TurbineWind Power? Some frequently asked questions
How do wind power systems work?

Simply, a fan blade system with a generator which is installed on the roof of your house or on a pole collects kinetic energy. When the fan blades turn fast enough the generator will produce electricity. This electricity can be used to power your house.

How much money Can wind power save me?

Depending on wind speed and climate it is very common to lower your electricity bill by 50 to 90%

How much electricity will I have to produce?

Most houses households use about 10,000 kWh per year. This means you will have to produce approximately between 25 and 30 kWh per day.

Is wind power beneficial to the environment?

Absolutely yes! Unlike other energy sources, wind power does not produce any pollution.

Are wind power systems expensive?

A large wind turbine installation can be expensive. Prices range from $6,000 to $25,000 depending on the materials and the size of the wind turbine.

Smaller DIY wind turbines can be build for less than $200. These homemade systems can save you a lot of money. Savvy home owners combine solar and wind power to greatly reduce their power bill.

How to make wind turbine - how my quest for a DIY renewable energy system started.

DIY plans to construct a wind turbine can easily be found on the internet, but a lot of these blueprints and plans are completely useless, and the most of the info inside them can be found online with a little bit of research. I have bought a few DIY solar energy guides in the past but none of them were any good, I’m not a real DIY guy and a little bit technical challenged.

A little while ago I got a recommendation from a friend about a new instruction guide on building your own solar panel and wind turbine which was getting a lot of media attention. I doubted since I already bought other similar guides without much success, I finally decided to get the DIY guide and give it a try, one last time.

This new guide also comes with instruction videos and the best thing was that they also show you very clearly in a simple way how to put it all together. I’m going through all the material as we speak, and will report back in the coming days when my home made renewable system is ready (I hope ^_^)

I can’t wait to start converting the endless power of sun and wind into energy for my house.
